Report of the Secretary-General on the Peacebuilding Fund

Summary

The present report, which covers the activities of the Peacebuilding Fund for the period from January to December 2012, is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 63/282, which requested the Secretary-General to submit an annual report on the operation and activities of the Fund.

The World Health Organization reports that rates of violence are 4-10 times greater among persons with disabilities than non-disabled persons. Consultations with persons with disabilities conducted by the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) in seven countries suggest that women and girls with disabilities may be particularly vulnerable to gender-based violence in conflict and post-conflict settings. However, they do not have the same access to prevention and response programs as other community members.

The Guide on Livelihoods and Economic Recovery Programming in Crisis and Post-Crisis Situations provides a practical “how to” resource for development practitioners, particularly those in UNDP Country Offices. By sharing the knowledge and experience that UNDP and its partners have gained over the years, the Guide aims to facilitate effective and sustainable programming for livelihoods and economic recovery in crisis and post-crisis situations. It will be most useful at the onset of programming, especially in preparations for high-level discussions with national authorities, resource mobilization, project and programme development, and the provision of training and technical and policy advice.

ADDIS ABABA – A groundbreaking meeting in the Ethiopian capital this week has strengthened efforts to scale up nutrition initiatives under the Renewed Efforts Against Child Hunger and Undernutrition initiative, known as REACH.

It has been the largest-scale gathering of the REACH partnership since the initiative was established in 2008. It brought together technical experts and officials from four UN agencies in all 12 countries where the REACH approach is being followed, as well as from the host country, Ethiopia.

New York, 7 November—The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) today kicked off its 16th year announcing more than US$8 million in grants to 12 local initiatives in 18 countries. In ten countries, funds will be used to address violence against women in conflict, post conflict and transitional settings, including Libya for the first time.
