The Higher Committee of Foreign aid at the Red Crescent Authority has allocated Dh 4.027 million to carry out developmental projects in a number of countries.

The assistance will cover health, education and social services sectors in addition to the provision of water supplies in areas which suffer from shortage of this vital service.

These projects will be carried out in a number of countries, including Palestine, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Jordan and Pakistan, Senegal, Bosnia, Uganda, Benin, Thailand, Chad, in addition to Ghana, Lebanon, Libya and Mauritania.

Report of the Secretary-General on the Peacebuilding Fund

Summary

The present report, which covers the activities of the Peacebuilding Fund for the period from January to December 2012, is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 63/282, which requested the Secretary-General to submit an annual report on the operation and activities of the Fund.

Current Crisis: Mass atrocity crimes are occurring and urgent action is needed

Syria

Populations in Syria continue to face mass atrocity crimes committed by state security forces and affiliated militias. Growing internal armed conflict puts civilians at even greater risk.

People internally displaced by conflict and violence

For the last 14 years, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre has monitored intern- al displacement resulting from conflict and violence across the world. In 2011, the number of people internally displaced by these causes stood at 26.4 million.

Introduction

UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children 2012 describes the daily situation of some of the world’s most vulnerable children and women in more than 25 countries and territories beset by emergencies and crisis.

On November 23rd 2011 a special issue of Intervention, 'the International Journal of Mental Health, Psychosocial Work and Counselling in Areas of Armed Conflict' will be published. This issue contains 220 pages and was financially supported by the UNHCR through an unrestricted grant. The theme of this issue is:

'The integration of mental health into existing health systems during and after complex emergencies'

This report covers the period 01 January 2011 to 30 June 2011.
