The United States Commitment to the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves - Year Two Progress Report

In honor of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves’ second anniversary, the United States is pleased to announce that total investment in support of the Alliance and clean cookstoves has reached up to $114 million. This investment represents a nearly $10 million increase over the past year and will help the Alliance achieve its goal of enabling 100 million homes to adopt clean and efficient stoves and fuels by 2020.

Uganda – from child soldiers to livestock farmers

Technical workers and livestock farmers from Uganda have just completed a training course in Italy to teach former child soldiers the job of livestock farming. On their return from the fighting, the young people are in search of a role in the country’s southern communities. The project was promoted by the Italian Livestock Farmers’ Association (Italian initials AIA) with the support of the “Roma Capitale” organisation and is part of a decentralised cooperation programme.

Programme purpose: To increase the capacity of the International Federation to assist National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and impact from disasters through the provision of timely and adequate financial support for disaster response from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF).
