Tropical Storm Odette - The Caribbean

1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 15:00 GMT today, the centre of Tropical Storm Odette was located near latitude 17.2 north, longitude 71.9 west or about 40 miles / 65 km south west of Isla Beata on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph / 100 km/h with higher gusts.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR HAITI AND JAMAICA. THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING FOR JAMAICA MAY BE DISCONTINUED

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS...AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

TROPICAL STORM WATCHES OR WARNINGS MAY BE ISSUED FOR EASTERN CUBA LATER TODAY.

Creating a record, Tropical Storm Odette becomes the first storm to form in the Caribbean Sea in December since record keeping started in 1886.

A disturbance was upgraded to Tropical Depression 20 early Thursday morning and by last evening it has strengthened to become a tropical storm.

Defying most computer models, Odette was moving to the right or more eastward, that what the models were predicting.

At 7 o'clock this morning Odette continued moving towards Hispaniola where tropical storm warnings were in effect
