With a generous contribution from a Qatari philanthropist, Qatar Charity (International Charity Organization) has implemented a project to distribute 200 tons of flour to bakeries inside Syria. The project will provide bread for 600,000 persons for three months.

The project that carried out in collaboration with IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation aims at providing bread in affected areas, supporting and alleviating the suffering of Syrian people, and contributing to food security.

"I can’t believe I am in Damascus again. I have not been here for five years,” says 15-year-old Lara al-Tahan. “As our bus got closer to the city, my heart was beating fast and my nerves were tense.”

Lara is among the 297 students from Yarmouk and Lebanon who, on 11 May, headed to the Alliance Quarter in Damascus. The students, who are provided with room and board, are attending the UNRWA support classes running throughout the duration of the ninth-grade national exam from 14 through 25 May.

26 May 2017 – “I envy the mountains and the trees and the rocks because they will be able to breathe Daraa’s air and I won’t.” Those were the thoughts going through Doaa Al Zamel, when she and her family reached the Jordanian border. It was November 2012, one year and eight months since the violence in Syria first began.

Doaa is a refugee from Syria who now lives in Sweden. She survived one of the worst refugee shipwrecks on the Mediterranean Sea. In August 2014, aboard an overloaded ship carrying more than 500 refugees, Doaa became an unlikely hero.

This is my 5th visit to Syria and each time I come, I see more suffering. Nearly half of the population has been displaced and all are exhausted by conflict. The humanitarian needs are enormous, and in parts of the country affected by ongoing fighting these needs are in fact rising sharply.

This is especially true in hard-to-reach places. The irregularity of help is exposing these populations to risks including poor nutrition, unclean water, or inadequate medical care.
