  • Displacements from and within Ar-Raqqa Governorate continued due to heavy fighting and airstrikes. An estimated 202,702 people have been displaced since 1 April, including 32,510 since 1 June.

  • As of 11 July, estimates indicate that between 20,000 and 50,000 people remain inside Raqqa city.

  • As of 11 July, Ar-Raqqa city is militarily surrounded by the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF). Unverified reports, state that between 20 and 30 per cent of Raqqa city has been taken over by SDF forces.

BEIRUT — Syrian government warplanes carried out several air strikes in the Eastern Ghouta area east of Damascus Sunday, a day after the Syrian military declared a cessation of hostilities in the area, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The British-based monitoring group said Saturday had been relatively calm after the ceasefire took effect with isolated incidents of shellfire.

On Sunday, six air strikes hit the towns of Douma and Ain Terma in rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, it reported.

There was no immediate comment from the government or army.

Syria and Russia have announced agreement on a cease-fire in an area that is a stronghold of opposition forces near the capital, Damascus.

The Syrian military command the Russian Defense Ministry said separately on July 22 that a truce would begin in Eastern Ghouta, one of the last bastions for forces in western Syria fighting against troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

The Syrian army said in a report by the state SANA news agency that after days of heavy air strikes it would "halt fighting in some areas of Eastern Ghouta" from July 22.

As the health care service providers struggled to serve a 20% increase in population, the quality of services deteriorated and tensions in the community rose. Poorly equipped health centers started referring patients to the regional hospital, but those who could afford the transportation costs faced long waiting periods.

On July 18, another shipment of humanitarian aid has been airlifted to Syria by the Czech Army as part of a joint project of Czech Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense as well as the Czech Red Cross (CRC). The aid was forwarded by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Syria Eva Filipi and Director of the CRC Office Josef Konečný to the representatives of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC). The SARC provides health care to about two million persons in 144 facilities.

With support from the European Commission, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is running safe spaces for refugee women and girls in Greece. Nazia and Rolian met some months ago in the Eleonas refugee camp near Athens, where their families are neighbours. The two girls attend the space to socialise, learn and practice their favourite hobby: dancing.
