Report
IRIN
NAIROBI, 2 November (IRIN) - The World Food Programme (WFP) is increasingly lending its weight to the global fight against poverty. Centre stage is its plan to expand its support for school-feeding projects in the developing world, making the provision of a daily meal an integral part of a new campaign aimed at increasing school enrolment and ensuring that the world's undernourished children are educated.
Poor families often do not have enough food at home to provide members with regular meals. Children commonly go to school on an empty stomach, making it difficult for them to concentrate

ZIMBABWE: Commonwealth visit could lead to further isolation

A significant development in Zimbabwe this week was the arrival on Wednesday (24 October) of a Commonwealth mission charged with monitoring September's Abuja agreement. The visit came as farming organisations and civic groups said that state-backed invasions of white-owned farms had escalated despite the deal the government signed in Nigeria pledging to end the land crisis.
