The United States Commitment to the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves - Year Two Progress Report

In honor of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves’ second anniversary, the United States is pleased to announce that total investment in support of the Alliance and clean cookstoves has reached up to $114 million. This investment represents a nearly $10 million increase over the past year and will help the Alliance achieve its goal of enabling 100 million homes to adopt clean and efficient stoves and fuels by 2020.

1 . Donor contributions for SY1391.

Total donor pledges for SY1391 amounted to US$814.32 million, of which US$437.83 million (54%) were without preference and US$376.49 million (46%) were with preferences. Table 1 reflects total donor pledges including those paid-in amounts for SY1391. The total contributions for SY1391 include the unpaid pledges of US$63.49 million brought forward from SY1390.

Humanitarian aid is being stretched. Millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa are living with conflict and its legacy; natural disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and the floods in Pakistan have the power to disrupt and sometimes even paralyse economic and social infrastructure; recovery and reconstruction remain uneven following large-scale conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan; and political turmoil is escalating in parts of the Middle East and North Africa.
