  • Flow Monitoring: As of 02 February 2016 IOM field staff in Greece, fYROM, Croatia, and Slovenia had amassed interviews with over 3,765 migrants and asylum seekers, of which 406 people were interviewed over the week from 26 January-02 February. Individuals of Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi, Iranian and Pakistani nationalities comprised 94% of all respondents.

La France a enregistré 79.130 demandes d'asile en 2015, une hausse de 22% sur un an, un bilan toutefois bien moindre qu'en Allemagne qui reste en première ligne de la crise des réfugiés.

L'asile a été accordé à 31,5% des demandeurs l'an dernier, contre 28% en 2014, a indiqué mardi à l'AFP Pascal Brice, le directeur général de l'Office français de protection des réfugiés et apatrides (Ofpra), en précisant que les Syriens et les Soudanais étaient désormais les premiers demandeurs.

• 4,164 asylum-seekers departed to Croatia.

Next week, Mozambique, formerly one of the world’s most heavily mined countries, will formally declare it has completed mine clearance on its territory, the 29th country to do so since the 1990s. This leaves 60 countries and territories still contaminated according to Clearing the Mines, a review of mine action programmes around the world published today by Norwegian People’s Aid. The report’s authors have calculated that by 2020 another 20 countries should have completed mine clearance and the urgent humanitarian threat removed from the other 40.

The beggar-thy-neighbor border policies that have characterized much of the European response to the refugee crisis seem to be getting even worse.

Four Western Balkan governments have now blocked asylum seekers and migrants of certain nationalities from entering their territory, effectively barring them from accessing asylum procedures. As a result, people are once again trapped at European borders.
