Saudi medical supplies arrive in Gaza

GAZA, April 29 (KUNA) -- The first medical aid supplies presented by Saudi Arabia arrived in Gaza Strip on Monday, destined for the enclave's needy medical centers and hospitals.

The aid patch which consists of 10 tons of medicine and medical equipment arrived At Egyptian Al-Areesh Airport and entered through the Rafah crossing.

The aid is part of a mission dispatched upon instructions of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to help aid Gaza hospitals, cost Saudi Riyal 10 million.

UNRWA to compensate over 7,000 Gaza refugee families for shelter damages through US$ 15.6 million donation by Saudi Fund for Development

Over 7,000 refugee families in Gaza will receive financial support from UNRWA to repair and reconstruct homes damaged during the November conflict. A generous donation of US$ 15.6 million by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) will enable UNRWA to provide urgently needed cash subsidies directly to the affected refugee families to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their war-damaged shelters.

The Desert Locust situation continues to remain serious in the Central Region. Hopper bands and swarms continued to form in the winter breeding areas along both sides of the Red Sea during March. Locust numbers declined after mid-March due to control operations, dry vegetation and migration to the Nile Valley in Sudan and Egypt, and northwards to the Sinai Peninsula, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon.

Saudi-funded UN cash to support Gaza families

JERUSALEM, April 3, 2013 (AFP) - The United Nations is to provide financial support to thousands of Gaza families affected by last year's conflict with Israel thanks to a Saudi donation of nearly $16 million, it said on Wednesday.

"Over 7,000 refugee families in Gaza will receive financial support from UNRWA to repair and reconstruct homes damaged during the November conflict," the Palestinian refugee agency said in a statement.

Desert Locust situation update, 12 March 2013

Groups and swarms move in the Central region

The Desert Locust situation continues to remain serious along both sides of the Red Sea. In the past few days, more groups and small swarms have moved from the breeding areas on the coast into the interior of Sudan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. More locusts have also arrived in Israel and Eritrea. Survey and control operations are underway in all countries. Additional movements are expected during the remainder of March and countries should remain on alert.

Arab women continue rights struggle

A campaign that won legal recognition for Arab women’s citizenship rights in nine jurisdictions is providing inspiration and tactical lessons for women facing growing discrimination across the Middle East.

With support from IDRC, the Beirut-based Collective for Research and Training on Development-Action (CRTD.A) launched a regional research effort in 2002 to examine how women’s lack of citizenship rights leads to the denial of a host of other rights.

Riyadh gives USD 100 mln in aid to Palestinians

GAZA. Jan 16 (KM/A) -- Saudi Arabia has decided to give the Palestinian government in the West Bank USD 100 million to help ease out its financial trouble.

This came in a phone call between Saudi Minister of Finance Ibrahim Al-Assaf and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday evening.

In the phone conversation. the Saudi minister informed the Palestinian leader about Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz's decision to transfer USD 100 million to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported.

Saudi Campaign for Syria donates $2 million for Palestinians based in Syria

The Saudi National Campaign to Support Brothers in Syria has pledged 7.5 million riyals (USD 2 million) to support Palestinians affected by the violence in Syria, as well as those who have fled to safety in neighbouring Lebanon and Jordan.

The donation was made possible by King Abdullah Bin 'Abdul 'Aziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques and the charity’s Supervisor-General and Saudi Minister of the Interior, HRH Prince Mohammed Ibn Nayef Ibn Abdul Aziz.

Regional Humanitarian Funding Update (1 November 2012)

SITUATION OVERVIEW

  • Consolidated and Flash appeals in the MENA region received US$1.07 billion. The largest recipient was Yemen, with US$317 million, followed by oPt with US$276 million. In total, the appeals are 45% funded with a short fall of 55%.

  • The requirements for the Syria Regional Response Plan have been revised to US$488 million. The plan includes Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq and is currently 29% funded.

Arab women wage cyber 'uprising' demanding rights

DUBAI, Oct 11, 2012 (AFP) - Taking their cue from the Arab Spring, but fearing a backlash from Islamists the uprisings brought to power, Arab cyber activists have embarked on a daring campaign urging women fight for equality.

"The uprising of women in the Arab World" is the title of the Facebook page where the campaign was launched on October 1 to highlight "discrimination" against women in the Arab world.

Within days, the number of "likes" that the page has attracted has increased from about 20,000 to almost 35,000.

Saudi aid to Arab Spring countries $3.7 bn: IMF

WASHINGTON, Sept 19, 2012 (AFP) - Oil-rich Saudi Arabia has distributed $3.7 billion in aid to countries touched by the Arab Spring, most of it to Egypt and Jordan, a report by the International Monetary Fund showed Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's wealthiest country, has pledged nearly $17.9 billion in support for fellow Arabs since the pro-democracy revolt erupted in Tunisia in January 2010 and spread throughout the region, toppling and shaking authoritarian governments.

Saudi Arabia donates ten tonnes of dates to Palestine refugees in Lebanon

Beirut - In preparation for the upcoming month of Ramadan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated ten tonnes of dates to UNRWA for distribution to Palestine refugees living in Lebanon.

The food was officially handed over at the Saudi embassy in Beirut in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ali Awad Osseiri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Lebanon, His Excellency Mr. Ashraf Dabbour, Ambassador of Palestine to Lebanon, and Mr. Robert Hurt, the acting director of UNRWA affairs in Lebanon.
