IOM Regional Response to the Syria Crisis Situation Report (as of 16 May 2013)

IOM provides assistance to internally displaced persons, stranded migrants and third-country refugees inside Syria as well as Syrian refugees, Iraqi and Lebanese returnees and vulnerable host communities in the neighbouring countries of Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey.

Regional Humanitarian Funding Update (30 April 2013)

Situation Overview

  1. Consolidated and Flash appeals in the MENA region received US$ 674 million. The largest recipient was Syria, with US$339 million, followed by Yemen with US$196 million. In total, the appeals are 31.4% funded with a sho rtfall of 68.6%.

Syrian Arab Republic: Armed conflict is causing large scale displacement and severely affecting people's safety and livelihoods.

Libya: Residual humanitarian needs mainly relate to internal displacement. The most vulnerable are those living in IDP settlements and camps, which are located in Tripoli, Benghazi and in the surrounds of Sirte, Misrata, Tarhouna and Dirj.

Iraq: Insecurity and protracted displacement continues to create significant humanitarian needs for many Iraqis.

occupied Palestinian territory: Area C of The West Bank: Key Humanitarian Concerns, January 2013

KEY FACTS

  • Over 60 percent of the West Bank is considered Area C, where Israel retains near exclusive control, including over law enforcement, planning and construction.

  • 150,000 (approx.) Palestinians live in Area C in 542 communities, 281 of which are located entirely or mostly (50% or more of their built up area) in Area C.

10 Jan 2013 - Since 7 Jan 2013, heavy rain and snow have caused flooding in the north of the region. Some of the most affected areas are Tulkarem and Qalqilia, where two people were killed and 130 families were evacuated.
