Puerto Rico: Preferred Risk Flood Insurance-A Smart Buy

San Juan, PR -- Many Puerto Rico residents remain without flood insurance because their home or business has not been flooded yet. However, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Commonwealth officials advise that citizens do not need to live in a mapped floodplain, to get flood insurance.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING ISSUED FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

10TH November 2010,10AM- The Antigua Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Virgin Islands until 2PM. A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Residents living in low lying areas or areas that are prone to flooding should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.

President Obama Signs Puerto Rico Disaster Declaration

The President today declared a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and ordered Federal aid to supplement Commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, mudslides, and landslides associated with Tropical Storm Otto during the period of October 4-8, 2010.

Federal funding is available to Commonwealth and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement

San Juan, 3 sep (EFE).- El secretario del Departamento de Salud, Lorenzo González, confirmó hoy 10 nuevas muertes a causa del dengue en Puerto Rico, lo que eleva a 18 los fallecidos en la isla caribeña por la enfermedad en lo que va de 2010.

To date, the countries of the Region have reported a total of 344,346 cases of dengue, of which 7,838 are severe dengue. They have reported 144 deaths, with a regional fatality rate of 1.84%. A total of 79 deaths have been reported, with a Regional fatality rate of 2.9%. Specific sections of the report are devoted to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, and Puerto Rico, including data and/or maps as well as indications of severity, serotypes in circulation, affected areas, and measures taken. The report also includes recommendations for dengue prevention and control.
