MANILA, Dec 28, 2006 (AFP) - A series
of natural disasters left more than 3,000 people dead or missing in the
Philippines this year, the National Disaster Coordinating Council said
Thursday.
Four typhoons towards the end of the
year and a series of deadly mudslides left at least 1,312 people dead and
1,859 missing and believed dead, the civil defense agency said in its annual
report.
The report said 1,158 people were killed
and 891 were missing from typhoons Cimarron, Durian, Xangsane and Utor,
which all hit the Philippines between October and December.
