Latest developments

Survivors of Typhoon Bopha are already leaving emergency shelters as they return home and try to rebuild their devastated houses, according to information gathered for IOM’s Data Tracking Matrix. Field reports reveal that 12 emergency shelters have closed as people seek to salvage whatever they can in the Compostela Valley of Mindanao.

IOM’s DTM shows that of 35 sites assessed, 12 had already closed, leaving 23 sites in operation accommodating 1,985 families and 8,913 persons.

In 2012 so far, floods were the most frequent disaster occurring in Asia (44%), accounted for 54% of the death toll, 78% of people affected and 56% of all economic damages in the region.
