A primera vista, Fatima aparentaba tener unos 4 o 5 meses. Pero, en realidad, acababa de cumplir su primer año de vida. Estaba entre los 126.000 niños con desnutrición aguda grave tratados en uno de los 425 centros nutricionales establecidos por el Ministerio de Salud de Chad en 2012 como parte de la expansión de la atención en todo el Sahel. Se llegó a cientos de miles de niños con la atención necesaria para salvar sus vidas. Tristemente, no se pudo llegar a otros muchos.

Philippines (Mindanao) Humanitarian Action Plan 2013 - Typhoon Bopha/Pablo Response Action Plan for Recovery, Revision: January 2013

Typhoon Bopha, locally known as Pablo, hit the east coast of Mindanao in the south of the Philippines in the early hours of December 4. It was the 16th and most powerful typhoon in the Philippines and the deadliest in the world in 2012. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), it affected 6.2 million people and left 1,067 people dead, more than 800 people missing, and close to a million people displaced. More than 216,000 houses were damaged, and key public infrastructure and vast tracts of agricultural land decimated.

Summary: Typhoon Bopha (local name: Pablo) made landfall in Davao Oriental, on the eastern coast of Mindanao Island, Philippines, on Tuesday morning, 4 December 2012, packing winds of more than 220 kilometres per hour (kph). Although the massive storm slightly weakened upon hitting landmass, it has brought rain and strong winds in areas near its centre, leaving a trail of destruction to homes, livelihoods, lifelines and infrastructure as it crosses land.

This Preliminary Emergency Appeal seeks CHF 922,700 in cash, kind, or services to support the Philippine Red Cross to assist 15,000 families (some 75,000 persons) for 5 months. CHF 180,837 has been advanced from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to initiate distributions and to support detailed assessments.
