It is the eighth most generous country in the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC), which groups the world’s major donors. Australia’s goal is to reach 0.5% of GNI by 2017 – a goal the DAC encourages it to follow through on, given its good track record and relatively strong economy.

WMO Annual Climate Statement Confirms 2012 as Among Top Ten Warmest Years

GENEVA, 2 May 2013 (WMO) The World Meteorological Organization’s Statement on the Status of the Global Climate says that 2012 joined the ten previous years as one of the warmest — at ninth place — on record despite the cooling influence of a La Niña episode early in the year.

The inclusion of children and armed conflict (CAAC) in the agenda of the Security Council is a vital step towards protecting children in situations of armed conflict from some of the most egregious violations of their rights. The successes of the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM) have been well documented; to date, a total of 23 action plans have been adopted by 21 parties to armed conflict (two parties having concluded two action plans).

Around 6.5 million people were newly displaced, almost twice as many as the 3.5 million during 2011. The conflicts in Syria and DRC were responsible for around half of the new displacements.
