ELECTIONS HELD PEACEFULLY ON 30 DECEMBER

On 30 December, presidential and parliamentary elections were held under tight security, a vote which followed a referendum on constitutional change that was backed by 93 per cent of voters.
Three candidates have been tipped as front-runners in a race with 30 other presidential candidates. Observers anticipate that a second round will prove necessary in the presidential race and expect it to be held by the end of January.

Le 30 décembre, les élections présidentielles et législatives se sont tenues sous haute sécurité, un vote précédé d’un référendum sur une modification constitutionnelle qui a été soutenue par 93% des électeurs. Trois candidats étaient pressentis comme favoris dans une course comprenant 30 candidats au total. Les observateurs prévoient qu’un second tour sera nécessaire dans la course présidentielle et estiment qu’il devrait se tenir d’ici la fin du mois de janvier 2016.

Displaced populations in the country’s western Olodio locality and other areas are gradually returning to their villages despite lingering insecurity. Some 3,000 people fled their homes following armed attacks on Dahioké, Grabo and Irato areas in January. Humanitarian actors are assessing the possibility of food distributions in communities of return.

He spoke of the violence and the plight of his family scattered among three different countries after fleeing from Central Africa. His testimony illustrates only too well the suffering endured by our Central African teams.

CHAD: On 2 February, IOM and a team of five NGO workers departed for Tissi to conduct Training of Trainer (ToT) sessions on how to construct solar panels/lights.

Cet appel n’inclut pas encore les plans de réponse stratégiques des neuf pays du Sahel qui seront lancés en février 2015. Ce qui va augmenter le nombre de personnes à aider et les besoins financiers pour 2015.

reported this week that fighting between anti-Balaka and ex-Seleka groups has displaced at least 23,000 people from Kaga Bandoro since 2 May, a figure nearly double that reported last month.

50 PER CENT FOOD PRICE INCREASE SINCE CAR/CHAD BORDER CLOSED MSF
Spain reports that food prices have increased by 50 per cent over the past 10 days.
Products from neighboring Chad and Sudan are also becoming increasingly scarce.
