Feed the Future is the President’s global hunger and food security initiative and the U.S. Government’s contribution to the common approach to agricultural development and global food security agreed to at the G-8 Summit in L’Aquila, Italy in July 2009; reiterated and expanded by G-20 leaders at the Pittsburgh Summit that September; and ultimately endorsed by 192 countries at the United Nations at the World Food Summit in Rome that November. Mapping progress: evidence for a new development outlook

The past two decades have delivered unprecedented progress and improvements in quality of life across the developing world. Poverty has fallen in most developing countries, and the number of low-income countries fell from 60 in 2003 to just 39 in 2009. Countries such as India and (particularly) China have managed to lift very large numbers of people out of extreme poverty. Progress has not been restricted to increases in income; many developing countries have also dramatically improved their access to vital services, such as education and health.

This review responds to an NAO request for further work to assess the impact of the health Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) in Malawi. This was carried out as a desk review and has a number of limitations.
