ULAN BATOR (Nov. 28) XINHUA - Mongolia
harvested 138,000 tons of grains in 2000, the least since 1950's, said
the Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Breeding on Tuesday.
This year's harvest can only suffice
one third of total needs, and Mongolia has decided to import 67,000 tons
of wheat from the United States and Japan.
The ministry attributed crop failure
to droughts and early snow.
Mongolia's grains production in the 1980's
once reached 800,000 tons, but it has declined continuously these years,
to 190,000 tons last year.
