The Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM/WRA) has released the 8th Edition of "To Walk the Earth in Safety," a report summarizing the accomplishments of the U.S. Humanitarian Mine Action Program, the world's largest such operation.

In 2008, the Department of State provided $123.1 million in mine clearance and weapons destruction assistance to 35 countries. Among the report's success stories is Cambodia, where U.S.

From conflict to cooperation: Italian experts help Balkan countries to cooperate

Seven countries in the Western Balkans this week take a new, ambitious step towards closer cooperation. Just twelve years after the region was riven by conflict, 70 representatives from the countries are coming together at the European Training Foundation (ETF) in Turin on 5 and 6 May to develop the quality of education in the region.

"It is the first time that all these countries have worked together with the ETF on such an ambitious project, and their active participation is really important for improving the education systems", says Jean-Raymond Masson, lead expert at the ETF.

1. The Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review, established in accordance with Human Rights Council resolution 5/1 of 18 June 2007, held its third session from 1 to 15 December 2008. The review of Montenegro was held at the 6th meeting, on 3 December 2008. The delegation of Montenegro was headed by H.E. Mr. Miras Radovic, Minister for Justice. At its meeting on 5 December 2008, the Working Group adopted the present report.
