ADRA delivers firewood in Serbia

Silver Spring, Maryland - The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is distributing firewood to 2,200 people in the villages of Odzaci and Temerin in the Vojvodina region of Serbia.
The beneficiaries are trying to cope with the icy winter months on an income of less than US$1 per day, well below the poverty line. They include elderly, unemployed heads of households with children, single parent families, and people who are ill.

Funded by the German Government and ADRA offices in Denmark and Germany, this firewood project is valued at US$167,500.

A partial relaxation of the Air Safety Zone (ASZ) was announced today by Lieutenant General Marcel VALENTIN, COMKFOR to the Serb Authorities. This amendment to the MTA marks the end of a process which started with the North Atlantic Council's (NAC) decision of August 1st 2001.

CWS sends assistance for Balkans recovery work

CWS has sent $136,370 in school supplies, baby kits, and health supplies to our partner, Alfa, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Earlier this year, Alfa received $269,600 worth of CWS school supplies, "Gift of the Heart" Health and Baby Kits, and sewing kits which were distributed among displaced families. Also, in Bosnia and Serbia this year, CWS has distributed more than $655,000 worth of CWS Blankets, bed linens, school and sewing supplies, and Health Kits, as well as Baby Kits for new mothers whose lives have been disrupted by the conflict in Serbia.

Small grants to support human rights in 21 countries

UNDP and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights have launched a new phase of a joint project to provide small grants for community human rights initiatives in 21 countries.
The Assisting Communities Together (ACT) project offers grants up to US$5,000 to community organizations and individuals. The project funds activities that require little support but can nonetheless have a significant impact at the local level.

Serbia to get second tranche of EU aid

BELGRADE, Dec 20 (AFP) - Serbia is to get a second installment of EU aid worth 50.3 million euros (45 million dollars) under an agreement signed Thursday, the Yugoslav republic's minister for external cooperation said.

Minister Goran Pitic said the agreement, the second of its kind this year, was signed by European Commission and Serbian officials.
