SKOPJE, 27 December 2005 - Improving communication between school management and parents, and raising public awareness on the decentralization of education in rural communities was the aim of a series of OSCE workshops that concluded in the remote village of Urvic, near Tetovo.

The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje was requested, by school management and parents, to provide training on resolving issues through mediation.

Crvenkovski: Macedonia is not part of Kosovo problem

Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski Sunday met with the UN special envoy on Kosovo future status talks, Martti Ahtisaari, the Agency of Information reports.

At the meeting Ahtisaari informed Crvenkovski on his previous talks and positions of the negotiating teams of Pristina and Belgrade, which are included in the Kosovo future status talks. Kosovo independence could harm Balkans: analysts

SKOPJE, Nov 18 (AFP) - Granting Kosovo independence from Serbia could stir up separatist movements among ethnic Albanian minorities in other parts of the Balkans, analysts said ahead of the start of talks on the province's future status.

Macedonia, Albania stress no border change in resolving Kosovo issue

FYROM: OSCE Chairman to underline importance of reforms during visit to Skopje

SKOPJE, 4 October 2005 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, will visit Skopje on 5 October.

He will be discussing strengthening democracy in the country and the progress of reforms in key areas relating to the Ohrid Framework Agreement of August 2001, which brought an end to the short conflict in the country that year. OSCE Skopje Mission helps women more actively participate in public life

SKOPJE, 23 September 2005 - A new project to increase the participation of women in decision-making processes in the country was launched today at a conference of the NGO Union of Women's Organizations (UWOM) in Skopje.

FYROM: Discussions for faster return of Kosovo refugees

Macedonian Minister of Labor and Social Policy Stevco Jakimovski and his Kosovo colleague Ibrahim Ramadani discussed Tuesday the issues of faster return of Kosovo refugees from Macedonia and signing of an agreement for mutual social insurance, MIA reported.

"We concluded that refugees must return to Kosovo, along with the assessment that the High Commissariat for Refugees should be engaged more intensively in the problem, since the Kosovo Government has no financial capacity to cover the costs for the return of these individuals", Minister Jakimovski said.

SKOPJE, 13 September 2005 - More than 50 representatives from national judicial institutions, as well as local and international organizations working on judicial reform, participated in a roundtable discussion yesterday in Skopje on reforming the judiciary.

The Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, visited Niger from 22 to 25 August to see first-hand United Nations efforts to help the people of one of the world's poorest countries face the challenges of drought, desertification and the recent locust plague that have caused severe food shortages and put nearly 3 million people at risk.

Macedonia: OSCE Mission to Skopje praises completion of border handover

Skopje, 30 August 2005 - The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje today praised the Ministries of Defense and Interior on the successful transfer of border control from the military to the border police.

"The final transfer at the border with Albania marks the end of all military responsibility in internal security and an important step in the development of the police service," said Ambassador Carlos Pais, Head of the OSCE Mission.

Construction of a key Kosovo highway bridge completed

KACANIK, Kosovo: Kosovo's Minister of Transport, the Commander of international troops and EU officials today (Saturday) opened a key bridge on a busy highway that links Kosovo's capital, Pristina, with Skopje, the capital of the neighbouring former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

"The bridge will ensure a better and safer movement of goods and people in and out of Kosovo," said Thierry Bernard-Guele, Head of the Pristina Centre of the European Agency for Reconstruction which managed the project on behalf of the European Union.
