La Principauté de Monaco se mobilise en faveur des réfugiés syriens

Le Gouvernement Princier et la société civile monégasque, au travers des associations Mission Enfance, Amitié Sans Frontières, les Amis du Liban à Monaco et la Croix-Rouge monégasque (CRM), se mobilisent pour porter assistance aux victimes du conflit syrien. Cette aide se traduit par une contribution financière au Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les Réfugiés et à la Fédération Internationale de la Croix-Rouge, ainsi qu’une assistance en faveur de 450 familles réfugiées au Liban.

Successful first test of Tsunami Warning System for the North Atlantic and Mediterranean

The exercise organized on 27 and 28 November to evaluate the functioning of the Tsunami Warning System for the North East Atlantic, Mediterranean and Adjacent Seas has taken place as scheduled. This real-time simulation, based on four scenarios in which earthquakes provoked tsunamis in different regions, demonstrated that the communication system for sending and receiving alert messages to concerned national authorities, worked smoothly.

North Atlantic and Mediterrenean tsunami warning system put to the test

A simulated tsunami will strike the western and eastern coasts of the Mediterranean Sea and the North East Atlantic shoreline on 27 and 28 November, to test the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System for the North-eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and connected seas. The exercise, named NEAMWave12, is organized under the umbrella of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).

Results of Monaco Collectif Humanitaire: 139 children received care between January 2008 and October 2011

On Tuesday 11th October, in the presence of T.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and Princess Charlene, Monaco Collectif Humanitaire presented the results of the project initiated on the occasion of the Prince’s 50th birthday and which has enabled 139 children from developing countries to receive treatment in Monaco. After thanking and commending the involvement of each member of the Collectif, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince announced that he wished to renew his support for the project, by allocating 450,000 € for the period 2011-2013.

Emergency Humanitarian Aid for the Horn of Africa

In the face of the worst drought the Horn of Africa (Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia) has experienced in the last 60 years, the Government of Monaco has decided to allocate 20,000 € to the World Food Programme in order to provide food supplements to the under fives in Ethiopia.

According to the latest estimates of the World Food Programme (WFP), close to 11.5 million people are in need of Emergency Humanitarian Aid not only in the Horn of Africa, but also in Kenya and Uganda.

Monaco's Prince Albert visits young Iraqi refugee recovering from heart surgery

PARIS, France, June 15 (UNHCR) – Prince Albert II of Monaco has shown his personal support for a medical accord with UNHCR by visiting a five-year-old Iraqi refugee recovering from heart surgery in Monte Carlo.

The Monaco leader called on Basim Omar Basim last Thursday at the Cardio-Thoracic Centre, where the infant underwent a life-saving operation earlier this year under an accord between UNHCR and the Mediterranean principality's Office of International Cooperation. The boy had had a first operation in Monaco in 2009, but needed to return for more surgery this year.
