In Jaffna one EPDP cadre distributing copies of a tamil weekly (EPDP publication: Thinamurasu) was shot dead by two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle on the 28th of July around 12:30 p.m. in Stanly Road, inside Jaffna town. This resulted in a strong police and army presence and they blocked off the area.

Galle
Establishment of transitional shelters was completed by the second week of July and the focus is now on construction of permanent houses in the district. A District Committee, established by TAFREN, held a meeting on livelihood which commenced in order to focus on upgrading and planning for sustainable development of livelihood for Tsunami affected people of the district.

Overall Situation

UNDP has initiated a peoples' consultation on post-tsunami recovery in the tsunami-affected districts in the south, east and northern coasts of the island, aimed at strengthening people's participation in the rebuilding efforts. The consultations will take place in more than 1,100 villages in 11 tsunami-affected districts in the country through 460 focus-group discussions. Formations dans les orphelinats de Matara au Sri Lanka

TSF vient d'achever une formation de 15 heures portant sur les bases de l'informatique et de l'Internet à l'Orphelinat Buddha Kanta Lama Niwaase, situé en plein cœur de Matara. Cette formation fut couronnée de succès, les filles apprenant très rapidement le maniement de la souris et du clavier, les recherches sur Internet ou les logiciels de traitement de texte. « Tsunami ! » s'écrièrent les filles en voyant la photo d'une vague sur Internet. U. S. and Indonesia sign agreement for US$400 million for relief and reconstruction The governments of the U.S. and Indonesia signed an Agreement committing a total of US$400 million in tsunami relief and reconstruction aid to support immediate and long-term recovery in Indonesia.

In a ceremony at the Presidential Palace on July 7, 2005, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and U.S. Ambassador B. Lynn Pascoe highlighted the strong partnership between Indonesia and the United States.

HIGHLIGHTS
Camps with tents in Galle Four Gravats are steadfastly being removed as the last batch of transitional shelters are being completed. As reported by the Transitional Accommodation Project (TAP) in Galle, there are still 231 families in tents, while 4556 shelters have been completed. Finding sufficient land in Galle Four Gravats is part of the reason for the delay in the movement from tents to transitional shelter, the Shelter Working Group in Galle District can be optimistic that solutions will be found after discussions with Mr. Tilak Ranaviraja,
