Dear colleagues,

In September 2011, Cambodia experienced its worst seasonal flooding for over a decade, which affected 350,274 households in 18 provinces of Cambodia. Most of the communities affected by the floods are in the rural areas which remained inaccessible for a few months after the flood. The affected population are mainly poor subsistence farmers or day-labourer families.

Cambodia is experiencing its worst seasonal flooding for over a decade. 18 of the 24 provinces have been affected with 1,700,000 people affected nationally and over 100,000 families displaced according to official figures, which are widely assumed to be underestimated. 247 people have died as of 18 October 2011 and the floods have hit the poorest most severely.

Cambodia is experiencing its worst seasonal flooding for over a decade. 17 of the 24 provinces have been affected with 1,500,000 people affected nation-wide and over 90,000 families displaced according to official figures. 207 people have died as of 11 October 2011. The floods have hit the poorest hardest. The affected population is mainly poor subsistence farmer or day-labourer families.

Singapore Red Cross launches public appeals for survivors of Padang earthquake and Typhoon Ketsana

Singapore, 5 October 2009 - The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has launched two month-long public appeals for survivors of Typhoon Ketsana in Indochina and the Padang earthquake in Indonesia respectively.

This comes on the back of the Philippines Tropical Storm appeal, which was launched just four days earlier.

Situation Report

According to assessments made by CWS-Cambodia staff and the National Committee for Disaster Management of Cambodia (NCDM), drought conditions through June 2002 are affecting more than 1.5 million people in eight provinces across Cambodia. During the usual growing season this year, less than 50 percent of cultivated land was saturated enough for planting the rice crop. Then, in mid-August, heavy rains and monsoon flooding that claimed 29 lives also caused damage to many of seedlings
