  1. Thailand -10 provinces in central and eastern parts of the country are still being hit by floods. As of 2 Oct, More than 188,000 people have been affected.

  2. Cambodia - Flash flooding in Banteay Meanchey has killed 13, forced 5,000 families to be evacuated and inundated 41,000 hectares of paddy fields.

Cambodia Food Price and Wage Bulletin: No. 41, July 2012

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Food purchasing power of households decreased in rural areas by 6.3% and increased in urban areas by 0.7% month-on-month, respectively.

  • Retail price of lowest quality rice increased by 5.3% in rural areas and by 0.3% in urban areas on a month-on-month basis.

  • Wholesale price of mixed rice increased by 6.7% month-on-month and decreased by 0.3% year-on-year.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Early and sufficient rain in May contributed to timely rice seeding and transplanting in the second quarter of 2012. Wet season cultivated areas have increased from the previous year’s.

• According to current river levels and predicted weather conditions, the maximum water level in the Bassac-Chakto Mukh station is expected to reach 10.55 m in 2012. When the river level exceeds an average of 10 m in this station there is a probability for floods.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Food purchasing power of households slightly increased in both rural and urban areas by 1% and 0.4% month-on-month, respectively.

  • Retail price of lowest quality rice increased by 2.2% in rural areas but decreased by 0.8% in urban areas, on a month-onmonth basis.

  • Wholesale price of mixed rice decreased by 4.4% month-on-month and by 4.5% year-on-year.

  • Export price of Thai and Vietnamese rice, benchmarks for Asia, both slightly increased by 1.5% and 1% month-on-month, respectively.
