Kyrgyzstan: Do not return Uzbek refugees

Government of India donates humanitarian aid worth Rs. 22.13 lakh to Government of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan

New Delhi, December 12, 2005 - Government of India has donated medical equipment and medicines worth Rs. 22.13 lakh to Government of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan as humanitarian aid. ANKARA, 24 November (IRIN) - Four Uzbek refugees continue to languish in a pre-trial detention centre in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh, more than six months after fleeing a violent government crackdown in the southern Uzbek city of Andijan.

"Their status remains the same. They're still in detention," Vitaly Masalousky, acting country representative for the office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), confirmed from the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, on Thursday.

Uzbekistan: Andijon refugees in Romania have escaped violence, but not heartache

Prague, 10 November 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Ismoiljon's birth on 23 October in a refugee camp in the western Romanian city of Timisoara was a moment of joy for his mother, Roziya, and the other Uzbek refugees in Romania.
Nineteen-year-old Roziya was pregnant when the shooting started on Andijon's central square on 13 May. She fled to Kyrgyzstan with her mother and mother-in-law and many other Andijon residents. She and 438 other refugees were transferred to Romania in late July, where most are still awaiting a UN decision on their final destination.

Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan: Landmine threat along Uzbek border removed

OSH, 31 October (IRIN) - Uzbek security forces have demined the country's eastern border with Kyrgyzstan, with work under way to clear landmines from the Tajik part of the Uzbek border as well, officials said on Monday.

Kyrgyz border units in the southern province of Batken have completed inspections of minefields near the border settlements of Chonkara, Ak-Turpak and Otukchu, which were cleared by Uzbek demining squads, and confirmed that the border was now landmine-free.

Karel De Gucht backs a pilot project for human rights in Kyrgyzstan

Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht has decided to unblock 300,000 EUR (from the budget for conflict prevention) for a pilot project covering the period 2005-2007 aimed at developing a national system for promoting and protecting human rights in the Central Asian Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
