Refugee Population

With ongoing conflict in Syria, the number of refugees in Za’atari camp increases every day, and is currently situated between 20,000 and 30,000 persons. Precise figures are difficult to obtain, with unclear information once refugees are in the camp. UNHCR and JHCO data tracks how many people enter and how many are bailed out to host communities, but the number of people leaving unofficially to the community or Syria is not clear.

Access to water and sanitation facilities is a right for all people, including those with temporary or permanent impairments such as injuries and disabilities, and also other vulnerable groups including pregnant women, elderly people, overweight people and those with chronic disease to fulfil their basic needs. They represent usually at least 15% of a population and this is often higher in emergency settings (WHO and World Bank, 2011).

Andalucía contributes EUR 1 million to UNRWA mother and child health care

The regional government of Andalucía has confirmed a EUR 1 million donation to support mother and child health-care services provided by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). This is the fourth consecutive year that Andalucía has helped the Agency provide quality and accessible family health care for Palestine refugee women and their children throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

Measle and polio Vaccination, Za’atari, French camp Begining: Sunday 18th November

Friday 21th December: 3566 vaccinated children since the beginning

Sunday 16/12, vaccination staff met the school director for its participation to diffuse messages about the vaccination campaign.

Monday 17/12, UNICEF puts posters (about campaign and routine vaccination) at health providers caravans and in the school. UNICEF gave flyers on campaign and routine vaccination to the health providers presents during the health coordination meeting.

The distribution of the gender by class of age doesn’t vary significantly (p=0,9).

Syrian Crisis: How WFP Is Helping Families Fleeing Conflict

Humanitarian needs -- especially food -- are growing across Syria. At the same time as thousands of families are being displaced, both bread and fuel are running short in many areas. WFP is currently reaching about 1.5 million people every month inside Syria. But the escalation of fighting is making it harder to reach the people affected, especially in the north. Meanwhile, as thousands of families pour into neighbouring countries, WFP is also providing assistance in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq. Here's an overview:

IOM Regional Response to the Syria Crisis - 27 December 2012

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Syria: IOM has completed the rehabilitation of 3 shelters – 1 in Kafr Sousseh and 2 in the Qudsaya Suburb. Kafr Sousseh currently houses 950 IDPs.

  • Jordan: IOM is currently operating 24-hour emergency transportation of refugees as they have begun arriving during the day time.

  • Lebanon: To date, IOM distributed a total of 11,699 rechargeable lamps, 141 Diapers bags, 1,667 house cleaning kits, 15,776 shelter support items, 5,140 hygiene kits and 35,437 winterization items to 47,889 Syrian refugees and 21,972 Lebanese returnees.
