16 Apr 2013 - A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the province of Sistan and Baluchestan in South-east Iran. Forty people have been reported dead.

Iran: Earthquake (as of 09 Apr 2013) - Location Map

9 Apr 2013 - A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit the south-eastern part of Iran. At least 850 people were injured and 32 are reported dead. Around 1,000 people are sheltering in tents.

Humanitarian Bulletin Middle East and North Africa, Issue 03, July-August 2012 (EN/AR)

Highlights

  • Funding shortfalls are undermining the ongoing humanitarian response in Pakistan, with aid agencies cutting critical life-saving assistance.

  • Needs in Syria increased to an estimated 2.5 million people and the number of refugees has doubled since July. Whilst humanitarian agencies have scaled up, these efforts are being undermined by funding shortfalls.

  • The government of Iran led the humanitarian response to two earthquakes that left 300 dead, 2600 njured and over 150,000 affected.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

• Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.4 and 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the East Azerbaijan province at 12:23 UTC (16:53 local time) and 12:34 UTC (17:04 local time);

• The disaster has left 300 dead and approximately 2000 injured. An estimated 17,000 are in need of assistance;

11 Aug 2012 - Up to 50 people were killed and 400 injured as two strong earthquakes jolted northwest Iran on Saturday, the head of the country's emergency services told ISNA news agency.
