Il se bouche le nez pour ne pas sentir la puanteur qui s’échappe d’une latrine qui déborde non loin de là. À Ramallah, capitale du Territoire palestinien occupé (300 000 habitants), une jeune fille de 14 ans est réveillée par des crampes menstruelles – elle n’ira pas en classe, car son école n’a pas de toilettes permettant l’intimité.

27 November 2012 – Le Programme commun des Nations Unies sur le VIH/sida (ONUSIDA) a annoncé mardi avoir conclu un accord avec le Partenariat contre la tuberculose (Stop TB) dans le cadre d'une campagne visant à renforcer la lutte contre cette maladie qui tue un grand nombre de séropositifs.

« La combinaison entre le VIH et la tuberculose est létale. Nous pouvons empêcher le décès des patients séropositifs en associant et simplifiant les traitements de ces deux maladies », a déclaré le Directeur exécutif de l'ONUSIDA dans un communiqué de presse.

GENEVA, 27 November 2012––Last week the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) reported that there has been a 13% reduction in tuberculosis (TB)-associated HIV deaths in the last two years. The reduction is due to a sharp increase in the numbers of people with HIV and TB co-infection accessing antiretroviral therapy (ART)––a 45% increase between 2009 and 2011.

Si une part importante de la population mondiale doit déjà composer avec la hausse des prix des denrées alimentaires, elle est appelée à s'accroître dans les mois à venir.

JOHANNESBURG, 6 August 2012 (IRIN) - As global grain prices begin to climb, the Sahel countries of West Africa, those in the Horn, and in central and southern Africa - many of which depend mainly on imported cereals to feed their people - are most exposed to the impact of more expensive food, said the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Around the world plenty of people are already living with high food prices, and more will be joining them.

RIO DE JANEIRO, 19 June 2012 (IRIN) - Seven years after the Zimbabwean government tried to wipe out informal urban settlements in a campaign known as Operation Murambatsvina ("getting rid of the filth"), the scales have tipped in favour of the homeless, who are helping the capital city, Harare, develop a protocol to upgrade their living spaces.

"The government is broke, so they have no choice but to listen to us," said Patience Mudimu, of the Zimbabwe Homeless People’s Federation.
