SITUATION

1. UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR REPORTED THAT, DUE TO INCESSANT RAINS DURING FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER, SEVERAL VILLAGES IN STATES OF HARYANA AND PUNJAB WERE INUNDATED. AS A RESULT OF RELEASE OF EXCESS WATER FROM TALEWALA BARRAGE IN HARYANA, WATER LEVEL IN RIVER YAMUNA HAS RISEN 1.7 M ABOVE DANGER LEVEL. WATER LEVEL TOUCHED PEAK ON 7 SEPTEMBER AND IS LIKELY TO RECEDE GRADUALLY IN NEXT FEW DAYS.

2. GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ANNOUNCED THAT SITUATION WAS UNDER CONTROL AND THAT THERE WAS NO THREAT TO HUMAN
