  1. Bangladesh - Tropical Storm Mahasen struck southern districts on 16 May. The Joint Needs assessment (JNA) identified unment needs in shelter, WASH and livelihoods in Patuakali, Bhola and Barguna. Cyclone Mahasen - Areas Expected to be Impacted, Including IDP Areas and Populations - 15 May, 2013

The highest impact, surge and rainfall predictions are for the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar areas of Bangladesh but there are serious concerns for Rakhine State, with more than 140,000 IDPs.

  1. Marshall Islands - The Government has issued an elevated state of disaster due to the severe drought in northern parts of the country, affecting between 3,200 and 5,000 people. Assessments are ongoing and an UNDAC team has arrived in country. WASH is the priority as there is a priority need for safe drinking water.

  1. Marshall Islands - The Government has welcomed international assistance in response to a drought situation which is affecting up to 3,700 people living in the islands north of Majuro. An UNDAC team is being deployed, as have international assessment teams and OCHA staff.

1 . China - A 5.2M earthquake has struch Yunnan province of China. According to media reports, 30 were injured, 700 homes collapsed and 2,500 homes were damaged.

2 . Thailand - Flooding has killed 1 and affected over 7,800 in Narathiwat province. A request for international assistance is very unlikely.

Asia-Pacific region 22 - 28 January, 2013 - Natural disasters and other events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

  1. Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines in early December. The risk of floods and landslides due to heavy rains persists in typhoon-affected areas hampering humanitarian activities. The revised Action Plan was launched in Manila on 25 January asking for US$76 million. A low pressure area continues to affect areas in Mindanao causing flash floods and a landslide affecting nearly 40,000 people.

  1. Myanmar - The total IDP caseload in Rakhine state is nearly 110,000 people. Violence in Oct caused 89 deaths and 136 injuries. Over 5,300 houses and religious buildings were burned or destroyed. The Gov requested international assistance to support the humanitarian response.
