Lynne Featherstone launches school books for children of the world’s newest country

International Development Minister, Lynne Featherstone, will see the first set of school textbooks UK aid is providing to two million children in South Sudan later today.

As part of her first visit as Minister for International Development, Lynne Featherstone said ahead of the launch in Juba, South Sudan:

“These textbooks will help two million children become the literate and skilled young people South Sudan needs to better support itself long-term.

1 . Donor contributions for SY1391.

Total donor pledges for SY1391 amounted to US$814.32 million, of which US$437.83 million (54%) were without preference and US$376.49 million (46%) were with preferences. Table 1 reflects total donor pledges including those paid-in amounts for SY1391. The total contributions for SY1391 include the unpaid pledges of US$63.49 million brought forward from SY1390.
