Mexico City_(dpa) _ The death toll
in the capsizing of a Haitian refugee boat in the West Indies has reached
17, with dozens of people still missing, the Turks and Caicos Sun newspaper
reported Wednesday, citing the islands' governor, Gordon Wetherell.
The report said 116 of the Haitian immigrants
had been rescued after Monday's accident when the boat, with upwards of
200 people on board, had capsized.
Wetherell said the accident was a great
tragedy for the Turks and Caicos Islands region as meanwhile the search,
assisted by the US Coast Guard, continued for further survivors.
