UN mission in Haiti joins national police force in drug bust operation

United Nations peacekeepers in Haiti and the country's police force have seized 50 kilograms of cannabis in the first joint drugs bust of its kind in the impoverished Caribbean nation.

The large-scale anti-drugs operation - between the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti, known as MINUSTAH, and the Haitian National Police (HNP) - struck three sites in the south of the country.

The largest capture came from a disused nightclub near a beach in Aquinas, where the blue helmets and HNP found 35 kilograms of the illicit herb and four motor boats that were destroyed by court order.

La MINUSTAH, conjointement avec la Police Nationale d'Haïti (PNH) a procédé à une opération spéciale anti-drogue le 22 décembre dans le Sud du pays. Une opération d'envergure qui a regroupé plusieurs entités des forces de l'ordre présentes en Haïti.

MEXICO CITY, Dec 28, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX News Network) -- The Dominican Republic's migration authorities on Sunday repatriated 58 Haitians who were earlier detained in the north of the Caribbean island country neighboring Haiti.

The migration authorities said these Haitians did not have legal documents to stay in the Dominican Republic, news reports reaching here said.

Police have searched for migrants from Haiti on the streets of Santiago de Caballeros, a city where most of the estimated 500,000 illegal Haitian migrants were believed to be staying, said the authorities.
