RECOCARNO is a network of eight coffee producer cooperatives operating in northern Haiti, which was supported by Oxfam since its formation in 2001. RECOCARNO has Fairtrade certification, which enables it to market the coffee produced by its members at a premium above international prices, with profits being redistributed to producers each year. These full and summary reports document the findings of a quasi-experimental impact evaluation carried out in November and December 2011 among coffee producers in the North and North East departments of Haiti.

La Cour des comptes rend public, vendredi 11 janvier 2013, son rapport sur l’aide française à Haïti après le séisme du 12 janvier 2010.

D’une part, dans le cadre de ses missions classiques de contrôle de l’emploi des fonds publics, la Cour a examiné l’action de l’État, conduite notamment par les ministères des affaires étrangères, de l’intérieur et de la défense. Ainsi a-t-elle contrôlé le montant de la dépense publique supplémentaire effectivement engagée en faveur d'Haïti.

Les précédents numéros de la Lettre de l’Observatoire étaient fortement orientés vers les camps de déplacés et les questions relatives à la reconstruction. Si ces problématiques demeurent toujours aussi aiguës, ce numéro décentre provisoirement son attention sur d’autres sujets qui nous semblent devoir également attirer l’attention. Les trois articles ne sont pas forcément liés, si ce n’est par le fait que chacun d’entre eux s’enracine dans les enseignements consécutifs à la catastrophe du 12 janvier 2010.

SUMMARY OF RESULTS

In January 2010 Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake that leveled extensive portions of Port-au-Prince, killing or displacing hundreds of thousands of people. According to USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI), the Haitian Government was largely incapacitated because significant numbers of government officials were killed and many buildings and records were destroyed.

Review of cash-transfer coordination in Haiti following the earthquake of January 2010

This study, commissioned by the CaLP, aims to review and document the coordination of cash transfer programmes (CTP) implemented from the emergency phase in Haiti. It is part of a wider review of CTP coordination in emergency situations which includes three case studies (Pakistan, Haiti and the Horn of Africa, all of which are drawn into a comparative study, which can also be found on the CaLP website).
