Climate Prediction Center’s Central America Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET, April 11 – April 17, 2013

Heavy rain is expected to continue in western Guatemala during the next outlook period, elevating risks for local flooding.

1) Strong winds, rain, and hail have impacted western Guatemala, including the Huehuetenango and San Marcos departments during the past week. This has destroyed infrastructures and affected many people in the region. There is a high probability that heavy rain will continue during the next seven days, increasing the risks for flooding and landslides.

Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET April 4 – April 10, 2013

  • A cold front passage caused flooding and infrastructure damages across northern Honduras during the past week.

1) A poorly-distributed rainfall over the past several months has maintained substantial Apante to date deficits over the Caribbean Basin of Costa Rica. As the winter season is coming to an end, an increase in rainfall is expected over the coming weeks. Enhanced rain is forecast during the next outlook period and is expected to provide favorable soil moisture for the upcoming Primera season.

21 May 2012 - Heavy rains caused severe damages in El Progreso, Olancho and El Paraiso departments. At least 500 people were evacuated in the municipality of Trojes,
El Paraiso.

Qué es UNDAC?
La Evaluacion y Coordinacion ante Desastres de las Naciones Unidas (UNDAC, para su siglas en ingles) es parte del sistema internacional de respuesta a emergencias repentinas.
UNDAC fue creado en 1993. Es diseñado para apoyar a las Naciones Unidas y los gobiernos de paises afectados por desastres durante la primer fase de una emergencia repentina. Ademas, UNDAC apoya en la coordinación de la llegada de socorro internacional al nivel nacional y/o al sitio de la emergencia.
