FAO: inflación de los alimentos de la región alcanzó 1.3% en marzo

Inflación de marzo duplicó la de febrero debido a aumentos en las tasas de México, Venezuela, Chile, Perú y República Dominicana, señaló la FAO.

Santiago de Chile, 10 de mayo de 2013– La inflación mensual de los alimentos(*) de la región alcanzó 1.3 % en marzo, un nivel dos veces mayor que el del febrero, señaló hoy la FAO.

Just before 2 a.m. and nearly half a world away, I watched a guilty verdict from Guatemala scroll by tweet by tweet on my phone. Former President Efrain Rios Montt was convicted on May 10 of genocide and crimes against humanity and given 80 years in prison. As the news came through, I felt a satisfied chill—decades after the murder of 200,000 Guatemalans and the rape of 100,000 women, mostly Mayans, justice has actually come in our lifetime.

GENEVA (13 May 2013) -- The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has welcomed the first-instance conviction on Friday of Guatemala’s former de facto head of state, José Efraín Ríos Montt, for genocide and crimes against humanity.

The guilty verdict against Efraín Ríos Montt, former leader of Guatemala, for genocide and crimes against humanity is an unprecedented step toward establishing accountability for atrocities during the country’s brutal civil war.

Un total de 456.5 toneladas métricas de arroz fueron donadas por embajadores de Brasil y España. La donación será distribuida a familias de cuatro departamentos del corredor seco. La entrega se realiza a través del programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA).

Elmer López, Ministro de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (MAGA), informó que la ayuda será para las familias más afectadas de los departamentos de Santa Rosa, Suchitepéquez, Huehuetenango y Chimaltenango, que hacen un total de 10,927 beneficiados.
