Since its establishement, the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel has been engaged to supporting governements and partners to implement ambitions SSR programs.

To consolidate peace and security, many countries in West Africa have initiated crucial reforms of their security sectors with the support of several partners. As a major regional actor, UNOWAS has been engaged since its establishment in 2002* in supporting national authorities and regional organizations to articulate and implement new reforms of the security sector.

Conakry – On 3 August, 132 Guinean migrants, including six unaccompanied children, returned voluntarily to Guinea from Libya with the support of IOM, the UN Migration Agency, in collaboration with Guinean and Libyan authorities.

William Lacy Swing, IOM Director General, who was in Libya at the time, saw them off at Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport on Thursday. The returnees arrived in Conakry that same evening.

These visits form an integral part of WFP’s efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of the school meals programme and the areas examined during the monitoring help to showcase areas for improvement.

Guinea - In Conakry on 27 April, the UN Migration Agency (IOM) launched an integrated border management project in Guinea and Mali. The main objective of the project is to improve border security and control through enhancing the border management capacities of the Governments of Guinea and Mali.

The one-year project, funded by the Government of Japan, will be implemented in seven localities in Guinea (Conakry, Kankan, Mali, Sigiri, Dinguiraye, Koubia and Tougue) and three localities in Mali (Bamako, Koulikoro and Kangaba).

Conakry, 7 avril – L’organisation humanitaire internationale Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) lance aujourd’hui une large campagne de vaccination contre la rougeole à Conakry, en collaboration avec le ministère de la Santé guinéen. Depuis le début de cette année, 3468 cas ont été confirmés et 14 décès ont été recensés suite à la rougeole dans tout le pays. Conakry et Nzérékoré sont les préfectures les plus affectées.

Friday, April 7, 2017 — Conakry: The international humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders (MSF) is launching today a large scale measles vaccination campaign in Conakry, together with the Guinean Ministry of Health. Since the beginning of the year there have been 3468 confirmed cases and 14 deaths dues to measles in Guinea. Conakry and Nzérékoré are the most affected districts.
