Aid boat to cyclone-hit Pacific islands delayed

HONIARA, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The departure of a Solomon Islands patrol boat carrying aid and medicine to three islands hit by a massive cyclone has been delayed until the government pays for emergency food supplies, officials said on Tuesday.

The fate of 1,000 Solomon Islanders remained unknown two days after Cyclone Zoe, a maximum-category tropical storm, battered the islands on Sunday with winds exceeding 300 km an hour (186 mph) and huge waves.

Tikopia, Fataka and Anuta islands are so remote the patrol boat when it does leave would probably take three
