  1. Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines in early December. The risk of floods and landslides due to heavy rains persists in typhoon-affected areas hampering humanitarian activities. The revised Action Plan was launched in Manila on 25 January asking for US$76 million. A low pressure area continues to affect areas in Mindanao causing flash floods and a landslide affecting nearly 40,000 people.

Fiji: Tropical Cyclone Evan: Overview of Impact to Schools and Housing in Northern Division as at 30 December 2012

This map shows damages to dwellings in the Northern Division. The information used is from the Provincial Preliminary Assessment Reports conducted on 30 December. More detailed assessments are currently being finalized. This map will be revised to include further data as it becomes available. This map also identifies schools which have reported damages.

Fiji: Tropical Cyclone Evan: Overview of Impact to Schools and Formal Housing in Western Division (Viti Levu) as at 18 January 2013

This map shows damages to dwellings recognized by the Government of Fiji as having legal owner occupiers, legal tenants or recognized settlements. NGOs will be undertaking a detailed shelter assessment of all informal settlements not included in formal assessments to be completed by the end of January. This map will be revised to include all housing damages once assessments are finalized. This map also identifies schools which have reported damages.

  1. Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines in early December. Concerns for acute respiratory infections in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental provinces have declined since mid-December. The risk of floods and landslides due to heavy rains persists in typhoon-affected areas hampering humanitarian activities. The revised Action Plan will be launched in Manila on 25 January. More recently a low pressure area affected areas in Mindanao causing flash floods and a landslide affecting nearly 5,000 people. Source: OCHA

Report - Cyclone Evan Damage Asessment of Lautoka, Western Division, Fiji (as at 27 Dec 2012)

This report provides a detailed analysis of damages observed in Lautoka and surrounding towns, Western Province, Fiji. Worldview 2 Satellite imagery acquired on 20 December 2012 and Quick Bird acquired on 07 April 2012 was used for this report. Building damages in Lautoka appears to be limited to roof damages and debris. The most severe building damages observed in the imagery appear to be within the surrounding communities of Lautoka. In addition to building damages sections of forests are observed to have collapsed from the cyclone winds.

Asia-Pacific Region 18 - 24 December, 2012, Natural Disasters and Other Events being monitored by the OCHA Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific

  1. Philippines - TC Bopha (Pablo) struck the southern Philippines about 3 weeks ago. Nearly 834,000 people remain displaced, of whom almost 12,000 are in 43 evacuation centers. The rest are staying outside of the centers. As of 21 Dec, 1,050 people are reported as dead and another 838 are missing. A large international response is underway, in support of the government. Emergency Shelter is the highest priority need.

Fiji: TC Evan Track, Population and Evacuation Centers (as at 17 Dec 2012)

This map shows the actual track of Tropical Cyclone Evan in Fiji. It includes population data from the 2007 Census as well as information on the 65 Evacuation Centers (with approximately 4,000 evacuees) as at Monday, 17 December. Currently, there are 147 Evacuation Centres (with approximately 8,416 evacuees). This map will be updated when location information on additional Evacuation Centers is available.

Description:

The maps show historical storm tracks from 1956-2009 for the months of the southern hemisphere cyclone season (Nov-Apr). Storms that formed during El Niño, La Niña and ENSO Neutral conditions are differentiated to reveal patterns which demonstrate how the El Niño / Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and cyclonic activity are linked.
