Resolution among Consensus Texts on Advancing Culture of Peace; Assembly Also Adopts Text on Memorial for Victims of Transatlantic Slave Trade

Six-year-old Yagandra Kami flew to Pennsylvania in the USA on Wednesday, becoming the 75,000th refugee from Bhutan to be resettled from Nepal under a major programme launched in November 2007.

IOM Nepal Chief of Mission Maurizio Busatti and UNHCR Nepal Representative Stephane Jaquemet welcomed the milestone in the Nepali capital Kathmandu.

The exercise organized on 27 and 28 November to evaluate the functioning of the Tsunami Warning System for the North East Atlantic, Mediterranean and Adjacent Seas has taken place as scheduled. This real-time simulation, based on four scenarios in which earthquakes provoked tsunamis in different regions, demonstrated that the communication system for sending and receiving alert messages to concerned national authorities, worked smoothly.

COPENHAGEN, Oct 31, 2012 (AFP) - Denmark said on Wednesday it has suspended all financial assistance to the government of Uganda after an audit found that ten million euros ($13.0 million) of foreign aid had been misappropriated.

"We are taking this very seriously, and have immediately suspended all payments to the government of Uganda," Minister for Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bach told AFP.

There are no safe areas for civilians in Syria at the moment, forcing women and children to constantly move around to find security. A €1.2 mill donation from the Danish Government strengthens the ability of the Danish Refugee Council to reach the vulnerable civilians in both Syria and the neighboring countries.

COPENHAGEN, Sept 1, 2012 (AFP) - Denmark will free up another two million euros to help provide aid to Syrian refugees and displaced people as a civil war rages in their homeland, Danish public television DR reported Saturday.

Out of the 15 million kroner (two million euros), 13 million will go to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and two million to the Danish crisis agency, which sends personnel and equipment to Syrian refugees in Jordan.

The country’s first large-scale data collection since the 1970s has begun in Bamyan Province.

BAMYAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan --- “No one has done a survey here before, and nobody knows the type of challenges we face here,” said Mohammad Ibrahim, a farmer from the Bamiyan province during the enumeration phase of the first large-scale data collection conducted in Afghanistan since the 1970s.

“I don’t know the exact number of people living here. It must be a lot,” Mr. Ibahim added.

• An overwhelming majority of Iraqi refugees 91.6% of refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Syria are from Iraq. The Government of Syria, which has continuously implemented a generous policy towards the stay of Iraqi refugees, estimates that the country hosts about one million Iraqis. 64.6% come from the region of Baghdad alone and 62.4% sought refuge in Syria five or more years ago. 35% of the 27,681 families registered are female-headed households.

Erbil, 25 June 2012 A year of consultations on how to best develop the space for civil society in public life has been launched with the regional Kurdistan Parliament, government and civil society. The consultations will be widespread and solicit the views of members of the public and NGOs through public appeals, workshops and roundtables both locally and regionally in the year ahead.
