Denmark sends emergency aid to disaster areas in the Philippines

Denmark has decided to donate DKK 300,000 for an immediate humanitarian response in disaster struck areas.The tropical storm Washi has left a trail of death and destruction in the Philippines as a result of floodings. To date the storm has killed over a thousand people and destroyed 28,000 houses. The number of deaths is increasing and the situation is still critical for many Philippines. Especially children and women are very vulnerable at this stage.

Money starts flowing into Green Climate Fund

Durban, December 8, 2011 - Denmark has pledged to contribute nearly €15m to the Green Climate Fund, a pot of money that will finance mitigation, adaptation and new technology in poor countries hit by climate change.

The pledge raises hope that delegates at the COP17 climate talks will be motivated to get the fund, which does not yet operate, up and running.

The announcement came late in the day on December 7, the second day of the ministerial talks in Durban.

"This is to announce that the Royal Government of Denmark through its Representation in Phnom Penh on Friday October 21, 2011 donated 250,000 Danish Kroner or approx.US$ 50,000 to Save the Children Denmark for its flood relief efforts in Cambodia and that Mr. Tom Barthel Hansen, Head of Representation, on October 28, 2011signed an agreement with the local NGO Life With Dignity on financial support for emergency food aid to needy families affected by the floods amounting to 300,000 Danish Kroner or approx.. US$ 60,000.

Denmark donates DKK 250,000 or 50,000 USD to Save the Children's relief efforts in Cambodia

Save the Children Denmark will use the money from the Danish Foreign Ministry's relief fund to help needy Cambodians whose livelihoods are threatened by the floods that have hit rural areas of Cambodia hard in recent weeks.

Specifically, the relief efforts concentrate on distributing food packets and providing advice to and treatment of people who have become ill as a result of flooding, with particular focus on needy children. The efforts are undertaken in villages in low lying areas along the Mekong River in the provinces of Kampong Cham and Prey Veng.

Denmark provides first round of immediate aid for flood reliefvernment promises US$ 55,000 as flood relief donation

Islamabad- The Government of Denmark has as part of its immediate response to the diastrous floods, donated almost USD 60,000 to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Auhtority (NDMA) to provide urgent assistance to the flood victims.

The announcement of the Danish emergency response was made during a meeting between the Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Uffe Wolffhechel and Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir, Chaiman NDMA at the NDMA Headquarters.

Dangerous ammunition off the street

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs donates four million Danish kroner to DanChurchAid’s work, clearing away the dangerous ammunition and remnants of war in Libya.

In Misrata, ammunition and other remnants of war are piled up against the house surfaces, in the street and in parks. All types of ammunition, both boxes with shells and grenades for destroyed tanks.

‘It is extremely dangerous because the civilians are unable to tell if the ammunition has been used or if it is still active’, says Richard MacCormac, Head of the DCA Humanitarian Mine Action Unit.
