NAIROBI, 11 December (IRIN) - The Rahanweyn Resistance Army (RRA) has reportedly rejected an invitation from the government of Djibouti for talks in Djibouti with the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia, 'Ayaamaha' a Mogadishu-based daily reported on 10 December. A Djibouti official told IRIN that the RRA had been invited but said "whether and when they will come I cannot say".

Djibouti-Somalia: RRA invited to Djibouti for talks

NAIROBI, 5 December (IRIN) - The government of Djibouti has invited the Rahanwein Resistance Army (RRA) for talks with the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia, a senior Djibouti official told IRIN on Wednesday. The official said the invitation went out to the RRA who had indicated their desire to go Djibouti, but "whether and when they will come I cannot say".
The RRA, which controls the Bay and Bakol regions of southwestern Somalia, are members of the Somali Reconciliation and Restoration Council (SRRC), an opposition grouping of southern factions

The High Commissioner today is scheduled to meet with Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf. Later in the day, he will also meet with the Taleban representative in Pakistan. In meetings with Pakistani officials to date the High Commissioner has repeatedly urged Afghanistan's neighbours to open their borders to fleeing Afghans, particularly vulnerable people and those fleeing forced conscription.

Eastern African ministers to discuss pests

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept 17 (AFP) - Ministers of agriculture from six countries in eastern African are to start a two-day meeting in the northern Tanzanian town of Arusha on Monday, to draw up strategies for improving control of pests, including locusts, in the region, an official said.
Ministers from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will be attending the meeting, acting Director of the Desert Locust Control Organisation for Eastern Africa Peter Odiyo said in a statement released here Monday.

Almost 100,000 affected by drought in Djibouti: WFP

DJIBOUTI, Aug 27 (AFP) - More than 95,000 people have been affected by drought in Djibouti, the World Food Programme (WFP) said Monday.

The WFP will supply a further 11,000 tonnes of food to 95,900 affected people, the UN food agency said in a statement.

"Several consecutive years of drought have led to an influx into Djibouti city and other built-up areas in the interior in search of aid and family support," WFP representative in Djibouti Fatouma Samoura said.
