Overview

This weekly bulletin focuses on selected acute public health emergencies occurring in the WHO African Region. The WHO Health Emergencies Programme is currently monitoring 38 events in the region. This week, one new event has been reported: malaria outbreak in Cabo Verde. This week’s edition also covers key ongoing events, including:

• Lassa fever in Nigeria

• Hepatitis E in Nigeria

• Cholera in Kenya

• Humanitarian crisis in Cameroon

Between 2015 and 2016, the West African region and the Sahel experienced major elections, mostly in a peaceful, credible manner according to various reports of international observers. Countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria and Togo are now cited as examples of peaceful elections and democratic political changes.

However, while money is critical to this response, it’s not just about funding. Indeed, funds need to match the event scale, target the right areas and sectors, and smoothly flow to communities in need. But in order for that to happen, sound public policy on risk and frameworks have to be in place.

Pour chaque pays et chaque région couvert par FEWS NET, le Bulletin des prix fournit un ensemble de graphiques indiquant les prix mensuels de l’année commerciale en cours pour certains centres urbains, et permettant à l’utilisateur de comparer les tendances actuelles à la fois aux moyennes quinquennales, qui indiquent les tendances saisonnières, et aux prix de l'année précédente.

In September 2015, 193 UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Universal, inclusive, and indivisible, the Agenda calls for action by all countries to improve the lives of people globally. These 17 goals are designed to transform our world.

Jeudi 1er juin 2017, Mme Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Directreur Général des Relations Extérieures et de la Coopération, a ouvert la réunion organisée par l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé sur l’élimination du paludisme au Sahel, en présence du Dr Magda Robalo, Directrice du groupe des maladies transmissibles au Bureau régional de l'OMS en Afriqueet du Dr Kesete Admasu, Directeur exécutif du Secrétariat du partenariat « Roll Back Malaria ».
