Luanda - Five 40-foot containers with food and building materials bound for Cabo Verde hit by a volcanic eruption on the archipelago's Fogo Island are being loaded since Thursday onto the Angolan Navy's Rio Mbridge ship, in Luanda, Angop learnt.
The 51 ton-relief include corn flour, rice, beans, sausage, cooking salt and cooking oil, as well as building material comprising zinc sheets, rods and tubes.
The ship is expected to reach Cape Verde within 15 days.

The biggest eruption of Cape Verde volcano Pico do Fogo in decades has destroyed two villages and threatens a forest reserve Tuesday, officials said.
Some 1,500 people were forced to abandon their homes before the lava flow reached the villages of Portela and Bangeira on Fogo island in the Atlantic archipelago, fire brigade chief Arlindo Lima said late Monday on national radio.

GENEVA, 12 December 2014 - The President of the Cape Verde National Civil Protection Service, Arlindo Lima, has warned that the situation on the island of Fogo is likely to get worse in the coming days as volcanic activity continues and lava pours out of the Chã das Caldeiras crater where it has already destroyed two villages.
Luanda - The Angolan head of State José Eduardo dos Santos has instructed the Government to immediately send humanitarian relief aid to Cabo Verde hit by a volcanic eruption on the archipelago?s Fogo Island.
The information is contained in a press release that reached Angop on Thursday, stating that the president’s decision follows an appeal from the Cabo Verde’s authorities.
The aid includes civil protection equipment, foodstuffs and construction materials.
The Chã das Caldeiras area has been evacuated following the eruption of Pico Fogo Volcano on 23 November and access restricted since 7 December by Civil Protection authorities due to increased volcanic activity and increased concentration of SO2 and CO2 gases.
Updated figures indicate that 1080 persons have been displaced and are currently housed in temporary accommodation centres, shelter units built after the 1995 eruption, and with host families.

• Based on the latest assessments, the overall situation in Fogo Island has stabilized in the past 24 hours. Because the eruption is still ongoing, authorities will most likely evacuate the Cutelo Alto and Fonsaco area, north-east of the island, near Mosteiros, on 10 December. In the worst case scenario, the government will have a window of three days to guarantee the evacuation. The number of people that might need to be evacuated varies from 1 500 to 4 000.

• The zone of Cha das Caldeiras has been evacuated since the eruption of Pico Fogo Volcano on 23 November.
• As of 7 December, access has been restricted by Civil Protection authorities due to increased volcanic activity.
• Approximately 1000 persons have been displaced and are currently housed in temporary accomodation centres, shelter units built after the 1995 eruption, and with host families.
The eruption started at 10:00 on 23 December 2014.
Preliminary data showed that the eruptions were anteceded by a series of seismic events captured and reported by the local seismic network.
No human injuries reported.
Three vents on the north-south direction were opened, with distinct viscosity (`A’ a and Pahoehoe lava) and flow directions.
