17 GOALS TO TRANSFORM OUR WORLD

As the spectre of famine currently looms in multiple countries, climate change is exacerbating many of the existing environmental pressures. The ways we produce and consume food will need to adapt to keep pace.

In September 2015, 193 UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Universal, inclusive, and indivisible, the Agenda calls for action by all countries to improve the lives of people globally. These 17 goals are designed to transform our world.

Pour chaque pays et chaque région couvert par FEWS NET, le Bulletin des prix fournit un ensemble de graphiques indiquant les prix mensuels de l’année commerciale en cours pour certains centres urbains, et permettant à l’utilisateur de comparer les tendances actuelles à la fois aux moyennes quinquennales, qui indiquent les tendances saisonnières, et aux prix de l'année précédente.

NAIROBI, 20 May 2017 – The island nation of Cabo Verde and landlocked Swaziland have joined 26 other countries in Africa that are implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, a 15-year global agreement which seeks to save lives, reduce disaster losses and improve management of disaster risk by enhancing risk knowledge.

Executive summary

Formal remittances to developing countries were estimated to have exceeded USD 601 billion in 2015,6 an amount roughly three times larger than overseas development assistance (ODA). They provide a lifeline for some of the world’s most vulnerable and low income households, both by contributing to basic needs such as food, health care, education and housing, and by helping to manage external shocks and fluctuations in income.

NAIROBI, 10 May 2017 – Rising disasters in Africa’s cities and their links with poverty and rapid, unplanned urbanisation are ever more apparent from tragedies such as the recent rubbish dump landslide in Addis Ababa, which killed at least 113 people.

Tackling urban risk will be a key issue when governments and a broad range of other stakeholders, including businesses and tech experts, meet in two weeks’ time in Mexico for the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

WaPOR: database dissemination portal and APIs

The FAO portal to monitor Water Productivity through Open access of Remotely sensed derived data (WaPOR) monitors and reports on agriculture water productivity over Africa and the Near East.

It provides open access to the water productivity database and its thousands of underlying map layers, it allows for direct data queries, time series analyses, area statistics and data download of key variables associated to water and land productivity assessments.

Livelihood Change: livelihoods assets and strategies are sustainable and protected, nonetheless they remain eroded in conflict areas in the Lake Chad Basin, the north of Mali, and in the Liptako Gourma neighboring areas (Burkina Faso-Mali, Niger)
