SARH, 15 juin 2014 (IRIN) - La violence en République centrafricaine (RCA) a forcé 97 000 civils à se réfugier au Tchad voisin. Parmi eux, environ 1 200 sont des enfants non accompagnés ou séparés qui souhaitent maintenant retrouver leur famille et retourner à l'école et retrouver la sécurité ou, du moins, un semblant de normalité.

« Ce que je souhaite le plus au monde, c'est de retrouver mon père », a dit Lamine, 12 ans. « J'ignore s'il est en vie ou non. Si je savais qu'il était mort, je pourrais au moins faire mon deuil. »

Central African Republic Regional Response Plan January - December 2014

This regional inter-agency appeal aims at mobilizing the emergency response for the influx of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) since December 2013 to the Republics of Cameroon and Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Congo (RoC).
Immediate priorities to support the preservation of lives include the provision of food, individual and family protection, health and nutrition, water and sanitation and shelter.

IOM targets returnees to neighbouring countries in CAR Regional Response Plan

Armed conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) is causing massive human displacement and neighbouring countries with limited resources are carrying an increasingly heavy financial burden.

Tens of thousands of CAR Muslims, migrants and returnees fleeing armed groups continue to pour into Chad, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Republic of Congo (RoC). An estimated 200,000 have already fled CAR.

Early 2014, ECHO has decided to open an ECHO Flight service in Chad and Mali. These services are financed until the end of April 2014 under the ECHO Flight HIP 2013 whose budget had been increased. Two additional Caravan C208 have been added to the fleet.

DAC Aviation International Ltd, a Kenya-based operator, has won the call for tender and is going to be the contract holder for the next 4 years.

Germany providing 8.2 million euros to support relief measures in Africa

Humanitarian need remains very high in many humanitarian crisis situations in Africa. Germany has therefore made an additional 8.2 million euros available for humanitarian relief projects run by UN organisations and NGOs in Africa.

JOHANNESBOURG, 26 novembre 2012 (IRIN) - Les crises de réfugiés semblent commencer et se terminer. En 2011, tous les yeux étaient tournés vers le complexe de réfugiés de Dadaab, dans le nord du Kenya, alors qu’il accueillait des centaines de milliers de Somaliens qui fuyaient la famine et le conflit. Cette année, c’est l’exode des réfugiés syriens qui a attiré l’attention du public, même si la majorité des Somaliens qui sont arrivés à Dadaab l’an dernier y sont toujours.

Refugee crises appear to come and go. In 2011, all eyes were on the Dadaab refugee complex in northern Kenya as it received hundreds of thousands of Somalis fleeing famine and conflict. This year, attention has shifted to the refugee exodus from Syria, even though the majority of Somalis who arrived at Dadaab last year are still there.

26 juillet 2012, Rome - Une nouvelle initiative régionale aidera dix pays d'Afrique centrale à mettre en place des systèmes pointus de monitorage des forêts nationales, annonce la FAO aujourd'hui.

Ces dix pays, qui font partie du Bassin du Congo, sont le Burundi, le Cameroun, le Gabon, la Guinée équatoriale, la République centrafricaine, la République du Congo, la République démocratique du Congo, le Rwanda, Sao Tomé et Principe et le Tchad.

Ten Central African countries agree to improve forest monitoring

€6 million project to set up national monitoring systems and strengthen regional cooperation

A new regional initiative will help ten Central African countries to set up advanced national forest monitoring systems, FAO announced today. The ten countries are part of the Congo Basin and include Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda and São Tomé and Principe.

African sleeping sickness shrouded in superstition

KOBITOI, Chad — A frail 65-year-old woman sitting under the mango trees in a rural village in Chad suffers from a tropical disease that eats into the brain, and the locals blame on witchcraft.

"I've been suffering for more than two months now. I have headaches, fever, and I just feel very tired," said Lea Sadene, who has just been tested and diagnosed.

She has Human African trypanosomiasis, commonly known as sleeping sickness, which is transmitted by tsetse flies found in 36 sub-Saharan African countries.

UN and AU envoys arrive in Chad to warn of possibility of LRA haven

Senior United Nations and African Union officials arrived in Chad this weekend on a joint mission to warn its Government that the country could be the next destination of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

“The current pressure against LRA rebels could lead them to organize an incursion into other countries,” the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) said today in a press release.
