This edition provides an update on cluster tools, partners and operations, and highlights issues of current concern to the cluster. In particular, it focuses on the importance of effective partnerships in CCCM operations, and considers how global initiatives such as the Transformative Agenda will impact cluster strategies.

Horn of Africa Drought

Much of the Horn of Africa continuous to face the largest humanitarian crisis in the world today, in terms of scale and and severity, with more than 13 million people being severely affected and still in urgent need of humanitarian aid: in Somalia (4 million), Kenya (4.3 million), Ethiopia (4.8 million) and Djibouti (about 200 000)(OCHA, 11/12/11).

GENÈVE, 27 janvier 2012 - L'UNICEF a demandé aujourd'hui 1,28 milliard de dollars É.-U. pour financer en 2012 ses opérations humanitaires destinées à aider les enfants dans plus de 25 pays. La liste des pays comprend de nombreuses situations d'urgence qui durent depuis longtemps et qu'on a surnommées les « urgences silencieuses » mais la crise en Somalie et dans d'autres pays de la Corne de l'Afrique représente près d'un tiers du montant total sollicité.

GENEVA, 27 January 2012 – UNICEF [appealed]((/node/473150) today for US$1.28 billion to fund its humanitarian operations in 2012, assisting children in more than 25 countries globally. The list of countries includes many long standing or so-called “silent” emergencies, but the crisis in Somalia and in other countries in the Horn of Africa accounts for nearly one-third of the total amount.

PART 1. CONTEXT OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION

The Uganda humanitarian profile 2012 is the second version after a decision was made to end the Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP) in Uganda. It builds on the humanitarian profile for 2011 to provide an update on the humanitarian issues in the country. This is both a preparedness and resource mobilization tool which is updated every year to inform government and the humanitarian community on key humanitarian issues in the country.

Each week the Global Logistics Cluster Support Cell (GLCSC) provides an operational update of the activities of Logistics Clusters/Sectors in the field, together with the details of the latest publications on the Logistics Cluster website. The GLCSC is housed in the Logistics Division of the UN World Food Programme, the Global Logistics Cluster Lead. It is comprised of a diverse, multi-skilled group of logisticians drawn from ACF, Care International, WFP, WVI, and MSB (formerly SRSA).
