Following the coup of 24 March 2013, the Central African Republic humanitarian crisis has deepened progressively. The security situation remains precarious and volatile, resulting in large-scale displacement, widespread looting and violation of human rights. The crisis has placed additional strain on humanitarian conditions which were already precarious due to years of armed conflict and political instability.

LRA Regional Update: Central African Republic, DR Congo and South Sudan (January - March 2013) (Quarter 1)

The LRA continues to spread fear and pose a significant threat to civilians living in the affected areas of the DRC and the CAR. March 2013 saw a spike in incidents of presumed LRA attacks.

République Démocratique du Congo: Personnes déplacées et retournées (au 31 mars 2013)

Au 31 mars dernier, près de 2,6 millions de personnes étaient en déplacement forcé essentiellement à l’est de la RDC, dont plus du tiers dans la seule Province du Nord-Kivu. Ces déplacements résultent de l’instabilité qui prévaut dans la région, avec en filigrane conflits fonciers et richesses minières.

RD Congo - Nord-Kivu: Situation des personnes déplacées internes (PDI) au 25 mars 2013

Democratic Republic of Congo: Province Orientale: the continuing scourge of the LRA - January 2013

• 350,000 people forcibly uprooted in Haut-Uele and Bas-Uele Districts (70% of IDPs in the province) due to LRA attacks;

• With 36% of all LRA-related displacements, Dungu is the most affected Territory ;

• IDPs are returning in and around Dungu and Faradje due to improvements in the security situation;

• Ongoing humanitarian assistance in spite of early recovery gaps;

• African Union forces deployed since 2012.
