OCHA regional update no. 2 - Cholera outbreaks in Southern Africa, 24 Dec 2008

REGIONAL CONTEXT

Cases of cholera continue to be reported throughout the region. The most critical situation continues to be in Zimbabwe, with more than 20,000 cases recorded. Ongoing migration and trade appear to have led to cholera outbreaks in countries bordering Zimbabwe. In South Africa, indigenous transmission has also become a reality. Zambia, Mozambique and Angola are also suffering from unrelated outbreaks. This year the epidemics have occurred earlier than usual, and there are concerns that cholera may spread further during the rainy season, which usually corresponds to the

Zimbabwe: Botswana hosts Christmas shoppers

Report
IRIN
FRANCISTOWN, 24 December 2008 (IRIN) - The streets of Botswana's Francistown, about 110km from Zimbabwe's western border, are teeming with Zimbabwean shoppers ahead of Christmas.
