Financed entirely by eleven donors, the World Bank-administered Emergency Services Support Program (ESSP) Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) provided key financing for the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) social sector emergency program. This program was successfully implemented, despite the difficult security context, and benefited the entire Palestinian population in the West Bank and Gaza. At the conclusion of the project, public facilities continued to operate at the same or higher levels than the 2007 baselines.

Donor conference for Mali: Belgium commits to providing EUR 31.5 million for 2013 and 2014

In the context of the donor conference for Mali taking place in Brussels today, Minister for Development Cooperation Jean-Pascal Labille stated that Belgium would actively support the recovery process in Mali. To this end, Belgium will provide a financial contribution of EUR 17.3 million in 2013 and EUR 14.2 million in 2014.

For Jean-Pascal Labille, this support illustrates our country’s solidarity with the Malian people, who are currently experiencing a very dark time in their country’s history.

In order to provide services to nearly five million Palestine refugees in the occupied Palestinian territory, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, UNRWA relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions from its international partners. The Government of Belgium is one such important partner, supporting the Agency year-after-year to ensure that those the Agency works for receive the services they require and deserve.
