1 April 2015, Bamako/Rome - The government of Mali and FAO have launched the implementation phase of a $5 million project aimed at restoring the livelihoods of households affected by the armed conflicts and climate change in the northern part of the country.

The move was announced by Mali's Minister for Rural Development, Bokary Treta, and FAO-Director-General José Graziano da Silva during an official visit here.

The international Red Cross said Tuesday it has ordered staff in northern Mali not to travel out of urban centres after jihadists killed an aid worker in the restive area.

"We have decided to temporarily suspend all our movements in northern Mali, while we wait to understand this incident more clearly," International Committee of the Red Cross spokesman Valery Mbaoh Nana told AFP.

Genève / Bamako (CICR) – Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) est consterné par la mort d'un de ses collaborateurs au Mali. L'attaque du camion d'aide du CICR qu'il conduisait a eu lieu ce matin près de Gao, tuant ce collaborateur et blessant un membre de la Croix-Rouge malienne.

Le CICR condamne avec la plus grande fermeté cette attaque et en appelle à toutes les parties au conflit pour qu'elles respectent et protègent les travailleurs humanitaires.

Geneva / Bamako (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is profoundly dismayed by the death of one of its staff in Mali. An ICRC aid truck was attacked this morning near Gao, leaving one ICRC staff member dead and a member of the Mali Red Cross injured.

The ICRC strongly condemns the attack and calls on all parties to the conflict to respect and protect humanitarian workers.

Des partisans de l'ex-président malien Amadou Toumani Touré, exilé au Sénégal depuis 2012, menacé de poursuites au Mali, ont organisé des rassemblements jeudi à Bamako et en province pour réclamer son retour, selon un journaliste de l'AFP et des témoins.

Le rassemblement à Bamako a réuni dans une salle d'un centre de conférences plus d'un millier de personnes, pour la plupart en tee-shirts à l'effigie de M. Touré, surnommé "ATT" d'après ses initiales, a constaté le journaliste de l'AFP.

Hundreds of supporters of exiled former Malian president Amadou Toumani Toure, who was overthrown in a military coup in 2012, called for his return on Thursday in rallies held in several cities.

The gathering in the capital Bamako drew more than a thousand people, according to an AFP reporter at the scene, many of them wearing t-shirts emblazoned with a picture of Toure, who is known by his initials ATT.

Smaller crowds also gathered in the central city of Mopti and the northern city of Gao, witnesses said.

La Croix-Rouge malienne en collaboration avec la Croix- Rouge Américaine a réalisé des activités de mobilisation sociale et de sensibilisation contre la rougeole du 08 au 17 Mars 2015 dans le district de Bko. A cet effet, la dite campagne a mobilisé 1350 volontaires qui ont tous été formés aux techniques de sensibilisation et mobilisation de masse.

L’objectif principal de cette campagne était de contribuer à la réussite de la mobilisation sociale des journées nationales de vaccination contre la rougeole dans le district de Bamako.

Al-Qaïda au Maghreb islamique (Aqmi) a tué par balle puis décapité jeudi un civil malien qu'elle accusait de travailler pour les forces françaises au Mali, a-t-on appris dimanche auprès de sources sécuritaires.

"Un civil malien accusé de collaborer avec les forces françaises de l'opération Barkhane (anti-jihadiste) a été tué par balle et décapité par Aqmi cette semaine", a déclaré à l'AFP une source militaire africaine au sein de la Minusma, la force de l'ONU au Mali.

A collapse in peace talks could leave the question of north Mali's political status open indefinitely, a factor that may be exploited by Islamist militants active in the region.
